It was celebrations all round on Tuesday evening at this year’s Property Week awards where we were delighted to see Wrenbridge Sport take home the award for “Property Deal of the Year” for their York Community Stadium Project.
The award was incredibly well deserved, having taken 5 years of pure dedication, resilience and exceptional hard work to the deliver the outstanding York scheme. It is a great achievement to see this scheme acknowledged nationally for a great combination of commercial & community benefits.
The scheme is located at Monks Cross, close to the city centre and incorporates an 8,000 seat stadium and leisure complex equipped with a sports hall, swimming pool, gym, dance studio, climbing wall and artificial pitches. The planning consent for the project has been secured and works are now underway, with the steel framework construction having started last month.
Alongside the stadium, Wrenbridge Sport are developing 60,000 sq ft of new retail which will home a 13 screen IMAX cinema and several restaurants to form a new entertainment complex for the City of York and sustain the delivery of the stadium.
The project is a JV with York Council, being funded by Legal & General and took Wrenbridge Sport 5 years to knit together, including the pre-lets and completion by the leisure operators. The deal required over 30 legal documents being submitted simultaneously for it to be successful.
It therefore came as no surprise that Wrenbridge Sport were awarded with Property Week’s Deal of the Year for this amazing project, which will soon make the City of York the place to be. The awards ceremony was well enjoyed by all and deservedly so. A huge congratulations is in order for all those involved in the project and we look forward to its completion in 2019!
