Uttlesford District Council have approved plans for London Stansted’s expansion from 35 million to 43 million passengers a year following huge support from the region. The growth is set to boost the local economy, create 5,000 new jobs, and will be accompanied by a comprehensive package of community measures.

This will come as welcome news to Harlow Enterprise Zone which is currently being developed within the Stansted-Cambridge corridor. The Zone, which includes Harlow Science Park, is an established location with local occupiers including Public Health England, Pearson, Teva Pharmaceutical Industries, Arrow Electronics  and Raytheon. The science park will benefit from improved transport links, which will further increase the desirability of the location to potential businesses looking to invest and establish a presence in the region.

Acclaimed developers, Wrenbridge are at the heart of the work taking place at the Science Park, and are undertaking the development as part of a consortium with Vinci UK Developments and Harlow City Council. The site comprises 27 acres (10.9 hectares) of Grade A development opportunities totally 401,650 sq ft.  Works are progressing ahead of schedule at the site, with the Ground Breaking ceremony having taken place on the 16th  October followed quickly by the completion of the first steel frame just three weeks later.

In addition to the above, the expansion includes an increase in Stansted’s connectivity, with a boost to international long-haul routes to rapidly growing economies. This will be of particular benefit to Harlow Science Park, which is currently under development and seeking to attract companies at the cutting edge of the sci-tech industry. This sector is heavily reliant on airports, not just for the delivery of time critical air freight, but for the transportation of staff across the world, in particular to sci-tech advanced countries like China and the USA.
