In November 2021, Global Head of ESG, Jessica Pilz, took part in IPF’s Net-Zero Carbon (NZC) webinar which covered the NZC frameworks for international real estate investment.
IPF has recently summarised the outcomes of the webinar in their newest report ‘Pathways to NZC in Emissions in International Real Estate Investment’.
The built environment accounts for almost a quarter of all global greenhouse gas emissions, so it’s down to the real estate industry to implement meaningful targets and protocols to help meet the government’s NZC target of 2050.
IPF’s research considers the challenges the real estate industry faces in defining and delivering NZC. The study reviews existing industry efforts to frame net-zero, focussing on the variation in scope, stringency and applicability of these schemes. An analysis of 18 case study buildings against their applicable scheme targets shows the challenges in aligning with a net zero pathway that is not only dependent on the asset type/location but also the scheme used to frame that pathway.
