For the third year running, the Grouse & Grape Luncheon will be held in support of The Cure Parkinson’s Trust, a charity with one bold aim: to cure Parkinson’s. Palmer Capital Business Development Manager Emma Murray has been on the committee for a number of years now, and collectively over the past two years, this event has raised inexcess of £100,000.
Two people in the UK every hour are diagnosed with Parkinson’s, and 145,000 people in the UK are already living with the condition. At present, the chances of a person being diagnosed with Parkinson’s in his/her lifetime are 1-in-37, and these figures are set to increase.
But… people with Parkinson’s still rely on treatments first prescribed in the 1960s. Those treatments alleviate symptoms only: they do not cure.

CPT (Cure Parkinson’s Trust) takes a different approach.
- They seek a cure.
- They seek to alter the underlying neurological degeneration of brain cells.
- They seek to stop, slow or reverse the devastating progression of the condition.
Their International Linked Clinical Trials initiative (LCT), launched in 2012, prioritises the most promising existing treatments (for other conditions) which show biochemical potential for curing Parkinson’s. LCT is ground-breaking and has significant momentum: there are now over 30 drugs prioritised, with 14 already in or imminently close to clinical trial. We must commit more of these to clinical trial to produce effective treatments to change Parkinson’s forever.
CPT’s involvement with the Grouse & Grape Luncheon continues to be of great benefit to CPT and their search for a cure, especially for delivery of the remaining LCT trials. The Luncheon has raised many thousands of pounds already devoted to LCT (for example, the funds raised in 2017 are devoted to important sub-studies for an exciting trial established this year, repurposing the diabetes drug Lixisenatide). But it has also put them into contact with many new friends – key decision-makers and influencers – in the financial and philanthropic communities. Together, their ambitious goals are becoming yet more achievable, and much more quickly. For this, CPT is hugely grateful to the dedicated and enthusiastic committee and all attendees of the Luncheon.
Together, we believe we can consign Parkinson’s to medical history.
