As you will have heard, East Street Mews is the amazing new life-changing initiative in Bristol which has many well-known companies uniting to reduce youth homelessness. The aim of this amazing project is to create next step homes for young people who have experienced homelessness, and provide them with a solid foundation to reach the next stage of their lives in education or employment.
11 new contemporary apartments will be created by transforming a derelict Council-owned property into affordable homes which will be managed by Developing Health & Independence (DHI), who are one of the Principle Partners of East Street Mews. Cubex Land, a leading Bristol based property developer have been instrumental in pulling together all the partners on the scheme, of which Gavin Bridge is the current chair of the South West Landaid board. The other partners involved in the project are funding the restoration of the building, free of charge, which will in turn help them to lower the rent rates for 40% of market rental values.
East Street Mews, once complete, will assist future redevelopment schemes of derelict Council property by producing a pro bono model with a significant construction spend.
Preliminary work will start on the conversion in late summer this year, with the aim of welcoming the first residents into their homes in mid 2019. The project will also provide employment opportunities for young people, as the building caters for commercial space on the ground floor which will help to maintain the building.
