A PORT Talbot company is helping to transform part of Bristol with an innovative new S-shaped bridge.
Civil engineering firm Andrew Scott, based at The Grange, Margam, is currently finalising the installation of a £2.7m footbridge over a branch of the River Avon.
The pedestrian and cycle bridge will be a key feature in the Finzels Reach regeneration scheme, which is currently under development. It will connect Castle Park and Hawkins Lane to create a floating harbour.
The 20-ton sections arrived on site by barge and were craned into place. The final section of the footbridge was lowered last week.
Andrew Scott contracts manager Bill Pugh, said “We are delighted to be leading the Finzels Reach project, and after months of hard work we are thrilled to share details of these crucial final stages.
“With the final section of the bridge now in place, the vision of creating the ‘perfect place to live and work in the city’ thanks to this exciting residential, commercial, retail and leisure development will soon be realised.”
The £250m Finzels Reach scheme is being developed by Cubex and will see a new hotel, shops, offices, restaurants and more than 400 apartments.
The bridge, which will lie just up-stream from the Grade II listed Bristol Bridge, is expected to open to the public early this year.
