Bristol developer Cubex has secured the first BREEAM Outstanding ranking for an office building outside London under the latest assessment regime.

Aurora, a 95,000 sq ft building in Finzels Reach, is one of only six office buildings in the UK to have been awarded the rating under the BREEAM New Construction 2014 for Offices category.

The six-storey building is currently the only speculative office scheme under development in Bristol and is expected to be completed by the end of this year.

Sustainable features include rooftop solar panels, intelligent LED lighting, water saving technology, a heat recovery system, and electric car charging points.

Cubex said it worked with BREEAM assessor Carbon Consult from the early design stage to ensure the building would achieve the maximum sustainability rating.

Gavin Bridge, director at Cubex, said: “Not only is Aurora the only speculative office building in Bristol, where the availability of Grade A space is at a historic low, but it has now set a benchmark for sustainable office development in the city.

“Sustainability has played a key role in the design of Aurora from the outset. Future occupiers of the building will also benefit from a roof terrace garden with views across the city, as well as bicycle storage facilities, lockers and showers on site.”
