Invest Essex is once again attending the Biotechnology Innovation Organisation (BIO) International Convention 2019 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. Essex is seeing huge investment in the ‘life sciences’ sector, and the Wrenbridge scheme at Harlow Science Park is an example of the potential of the country and its position within the UK Innovation Corridor, which is already on the global map for its scientific research capabilities.
Construction at Harlow Science Park commenced in October 2018, and once complete, will provide a new destination for science, technology, research and innovation businesses and the BIO International Convention is the perfect global stage for Invest Essex to showcase the scheme at Harlow Science Park.
About Harlow Science Park
Harlow Council entered in to a joint venture with Vinci Developments UK and Wrenbridge to bring forward a development on the 27 acre Harlow Science Park. The Nexus building – a 29,800 sq ft office building, which is the first phase of Harlow Science Park will be the first building to be speculatively constructed for over 15 years. The site sits at the centre of the UK innovation corridor which links London, Stansted and Cambridge.
The park is situated within the town of Harlow, which is fast becoming a hub of development – alongside the large numbers of homes being built, Public Health England recently decided to locate their UK centre in Harlow, which will create c. 2,500 new jobs. In addition, accessibility to the town is increasing – the new Junction 7A of the M11 is due to open in 2021, and nearby Stansted airport is ever-growing. The increasing popularity of the town has sparked a growth in workforce, which for the Science Park and Public Health England is critical. Harlow has been at the centre of UK Science and R&D development and in addition to the new talent attracted to the town, has a legacy skilled workforce. The area is further boosted by the historic science/R&D community who are located within the wider Harlow Enterprise Zone, in which the Science Park sits – the site was the birth place of fibre optics!
